An 11 month old baby in France has died of malnourishment after being strictly breastfed by it’s vegan mother. The breast milk was lacking in vitamins B12 and vitamin A, which are mainly bioavailable in animal products.

Both parents have been convicted to serve five years in prison for neglect.

This is even worse than the time that 12 year old vegan girl from Scotland end up with rickets and the bones of an 80 year old due to a deficiency in vitamin D.

Vegans, please let this be a wake up call. If you’re concerned about animal cruelty in factory farms, buy meat and eggs from your local farmers. People who say there’s no such thing as ethical meat need to understand that there is a vast difference between a life lived on a farm and a life lived in a factory. If an animal lived a happy life up until it was killed, where is the fucking problem? Do you think that animal would have lived forever? Do you not think they would have been killed by some other animal for food if they had lived in the wild?

There is nothing wrong with assuming your position in the food chain and eating an animal if your health or life depends on it. A lot of supplements are not bioavalable, meaning the body doesn’t properly absorb them, and you should be getting most your nutrition from natural sources.

How many more babies need to die before you realize that your diet is not adequate?

I’ve always been silently against vegans and don’t really care what they do. But holy fuck this is wrong.

    > A lot of supplements are not bioavailable

Some. Vitamin B12 and Vitamin A are both extremely bioavailable in supplement form, however, and your ranting against my ethics changes nothing because one vegan couple were dangerously ignorant. Fuck off. My diet seems fine considering I’ve been on it since I was 12 and I’m lacking in absolutely nothing nutritional. I’ve had enough fucking blood tests lately to know.

    > I’ve always been silently against vegans

Why? What possible reason do you have to care if they aren’t assholes? You’re offended that someone else would prefer to see less murder in the world than you?

“We Raise All Our Beef Humanely On Open Pasture And Then We Hang Them Upside Down And Slash Their Throats”

     My favourite part:

There are certain things you can truly count on when you see that Nature’s Acres label at your local supermarket. One, our products are USDA certified organic. Two, every cut of Nature’s Acres beef is minimally processed and contains absolutely no artificial hormones or antibiotics—ever! Three, all of our cows were grasped by the nostrils using cast iron nose tongs and had their heads violently wrenched backward so we could slash right through their carotid artery and windpipe with an 18-inch blade. And four, you’ll experience a rich beef taste you just can’t beat. Mmm, mmm!

And you can take heart knowing that Nature’s Acres has earned the “Animal Welfare Approved” and “Certified Humane” seals of approval from independent inspectors.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a perfectly, disgustingly cheeky, ironic and at the same time really sad and sickening article.

The new Silk almond milk commercials are hilarious. You should never purchase Silk products (since they are owned by White Wave/Dean Foods, the biggest distributors of dairy milk in the world), but these commercials are hysterically ridiculous and full of vegan revolution.

    > world’s biggest dairy distributors offer vegan option, and therefore an way to show interest in and commercial viability for non-animal products
    > BOYCOTT IT TO SUPPORT ANIMAL RIGHTS

    That’s not how capitalism works.

But, yes, I love Silk, and this commercial is awesome. Never tried their almond milk, though… might have to in the near future.

Fred Malek III has had a long, illustrious career in politics— he’s worked for President Nixon and the first, less-shitty of the Presidents Bush. In 2008, he served as the National Finance Co-Chair of John McCain’s Presidential campaign. He’s had a formidable business career as well, serving important roles with Mariott and the Carlyle Group and Northwest Airlines. But before any of this, he was just a young, drunk, blood-covered West Point graduate standing around a spit containing a slowly rotating, skinned dog.

Really.  You think they would be smart enough to not add this kind of fuel - regardless of age - to the “Romney doesn’t care about dogs” story.

    ———

More reasons to not like Malek:

Malek is notorious as the “Jew counter” in President Richard Nixon’s administration: he made a list of Jewish employees in the Bureau of Labor Statistics at Nixon’s behest, and was involved in reassigning or demoting those workers. But as the New York Times pointed out this weekend, Malek has significant baggage from his campaign fundraising roles during the Nixon era…

That is… one hell of a headline.

    Oh, Romney. You so silly.

  5. Random rant: the militant vegans on Tumblr bother me so much. I don’t talk about it, since I find issues of sapient equality much more important, and I don’t want to come off as an “activist for anything,” but I’m an animal rights advocate/vegetarian/occasional vegan — for purely moral reasons, not health. It drives me insane to see these idiots compare eating meat to committing murder, or sexual assault. There are so many utilitarian arguments you could be making, or problems with slaughterhouses you could be respectfully exposing, but NOPE. LET’S OFFEND THE FUCK OUT OF EVERYONE WHO ISN’T AS CRAZY AS WE ARE.

Actually, now that I think about it, I imagine it’s rather like how most of the not-crazy Christians must feel when they see video of the Westboro Baptist Church, or anti-choice protesters outside of a women’s health clinic waving pictures of dead babies.
